Local Basti

This is made use of for the treatment of the dosas dominated by vata. It is administration of medicine through the anal passage/urethral opening or to the uterus. It is the best among all kinds of therapies because it provides the body with quick nutrition and mitigates the abnormal vata.

It is beneficial in conditions like, stiffness in the joins, lameness, stiffness of the legs, pain in the joints, fractures, contractures, distension of the abdomen with gas, colic, loss of appetite, etc.
Enema therapy is of 3 kinds,

  • Asthapana basti/The decoction enema – prepared from the combination of different drugs appropriate to the dosas, dusyas etc involved.
  • Anuvasana basti/The lubricating enema – this is a kind of enema in which any fatty material is used for the administration of basti.
  • Uttara basti/Enema into the urinary bladder or into the Uterus.
