(Charaka Samhitha)
The word sekam means to pour. In this type of fomentation, the prescribed liquid medium viz. oils, dhanyamlam, medicated milk, or even decoctions of the roots of plants are filled in pitchers, pots having holes at the bottom, and then made to shower on the patient’s body after the patient is well massaged with the prescribed oil.
There are different varieties of pariseka that is practiced in Ayurveda, but they are known under different names according to the medium that is used for the same.
